About me

Me on the summit of Bartle Frere, Queensland, AustraliaWelcome to my blog about my orchids. The orchids I grow are mainly miniature orchids from the cloudforests of South America and Central America. My name is Pontus and I live in Norrköping, Sweden. Before that I lived in Gothenburg. Worked many years as a Graphic Designer, illustrator. Apart from my interest in miniature orchids I love bouldering, photographing, art, film, rainforests, mountainbiking etc…

My interest in orchids goes back many years. The last years the interest in miniature species, mainly from South America and Central America, have exploded. I grow everything in a big vivaria. Big enough for hundreds of minatures.

I used to paint a lot. Fantasy, orchids etc. But some years ago my inspiration dissapered. But now I have finally got it back. So the first scetches are done and soon I will start to paint a Masdevallia sp. and a Lepanthes sp. Here you can see a old painting that Thomas Ditlevsen ordered. Also a keen orchid grower! I paint traditionally with acrylics and airbrush.

To be continued soon!

    Hej Pontus,
    cool site!

I write because I bought 3 miniorchids down in Thailand, and I stupidly forgot to write down their names. They’re doing more or less fine, so far, considering the travel they had to withstand, but now I would like to take best care of them (final destination would be the aerial part of an aquarium, at about 27 C, and very high humidity), but for the moment I have them simply at home (Denmark!). Can you help me identifying them to see what is the correct care for them?

Hi, I write since Colombia, Your blog is so interesting, we make the collection of books call “Orchids, Treasury of Colombia”, it shows the most complete information of the more than 4000 species of registered orchids. It is a 100% Colombian production, mostly composed of photographs and illustrations, its volumes are divided in alphabetical order.

This series of books was written by Dr. Carlos Uribe Vélez, an orthopedic doctor, with more than 40 years of experience in his professional practice. Throughout his life he has enjoyed and collected orchids and in the last 22 years he focused on his cultivation and study together with priest Pedro Ortiz Valdivieso, who devoted much of his time to orchid research Colombians and was experienced in a world authority on the subject.

In this moment we are in the launch of third volume is composed entirely of the description of the genres from H to letter L. It has 400 pages in full color, more than 880 photographs and 431 illustrations, it comes in two languages: English and Spanish and is available in luxury edition. In this volume the genus Lepanthes is presented, our miniature orchids measure between 4 and 30 mm, they have the most beautiful and varied forms of orchideology.

There are also more than 15 new species of orchids. A novelty of this volume is the sample for the first time in the history of the Huntleya Grandiflora Lam Orchid, which was described since 1869, but had no image or photographic record of this flower.
