Porroglossum hoeijeri

January 21, 2015

Porroglossum hoeijeri Luer 1985.

I love all Porroglossum species and grove several of them in my vivaria. They all love high mumidity and good air circulation. Also cool temperatures. I grow mine in temperatures of Max +19°C and Min +10°C now in winter time. Slightly warmer in summer. Some dont develop flowers if they don´t grow in mist. Porroglossum hoeijeri is a little bit easier than other Porroglossum sp. This species grow in Ecuador at around 2000 meters.

Lepanthes tibouchinicola – In situ Colombia

September 19, 2014

Lepanthes tibouchinicola Luer & R.Escobar 1983

Found this Lepanthes species in the mountains south of Jardin, Colombia. The plants were growing on Tibouchina sp at an elevation of 2600-2800 meters. This is a very wet area with dense cloud forest and were I found the plants the trees were growing to max 8 meters. I don´t know if this species grow on other host trees species other than Tibouchina sp? The host trees has a very paper like bark.

Looking for Fernandezia sp high up at the Belmira paramo – Colombia

September 10, 2014

During my visit in Colombia with a research team from the Botanical gardens in Gothenburg/Sweden one of our locations were high up above Belmira, north of Medellin – Colombia. We had a very nice day up on the Paramo after several hours of walking. Up there, next to a small lake, were a very dense cloud forest. I took of my shoes and explored the forest barefoot. The forest was very dense and full of orchids. And there I found many plants of Fernandezia sanguinea. I use to grow them at home in my vivaria but they are very hard to get to survive. Here it was fantastic to see them growing on moss covered branches every were. The forest is at around 2900 meters altitude. The next thread I will show what other orchids etc I found.

Telipogon species – Jardin, Colombia.

June 6, 2013

We found this species when we were driving on a small road just north of Jardin, Colombia. Climbie Hall shouted when we were driving next to some trees. There were a couple of plants growing in small trees just a meter from the road. Altitude at around 1700-1900 meters. Was suprised as this place don´t get so low temperatures. No ID yet but working on it. So here is first a In Situ picture and then some other pictures.

June 4, 2013

I had a wonderful time in Colombia. Went there with some researchers from Sweden, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia. We spent time in the Choco rainforest just north of Bahia Solano at Jardin Botanico del Pacifico. A wonderful place run by Sergio and his family. I can recommend this place to anyone that´s interested in seeing a lot of animals, orchids and other plants, nice scenery etc. One of the best places I have been to! After Choco we went up in the mountains north of Medellin. We stayed at Belmira and explored the hills there. And then we finished of in Jardin. So for some time to come I will publish pictures from this trip. Enjoy!

This small plant was found at around 200 meters in the dens rainforest east of Mecana beach, Choco. The whole plant is just 8 mm across. ID unknown.
